Analysis of slope failures in submarine canyon heads: An example from the Gulf of Lions ArchiMer
Sultan, Nabil; Gaudin, Mathieu; Berne, Serge; Canals, Miquel; Urgeles, Roger; Lafuerza, Sara.
To improve understanding of evolution of submarine canyons, a three-dimensional slope-stability model is applied to Bourcart Canyon in the western Gulf of Lions in the Mediterranean Sea. The model builds on previous work by Chen and others, and it uses the upper bound theorem of plasticity to calculate the factor of safety of a kinematically admissible failing mass. Examples of three-dimensional failure surfaces documented in the literature were used to test the model formulation. Model application to Bourcart Canyon employed the results of a detailed stratigraphic analyses based on data acquired by swath bathymetry, sub-bottom profiling, high-resolution seismic reflection surveys, and piston coring. The sediment layers were also characterized using...

Atlantic Salmon Fishery in the Baltic Sea – A Case of Trivial Cooperation AgEcon
Kulmala, Soile; Levontin, Polina; Lindroos, Marko; Pintassilgo, Pedro.
This paper analyses the management of the Atlantic salmon stocks in the Baltic Sea through a coalition game in the partition function form. The signs of economic and biological over-exploitation of these salmon stocks over the last two decades indicate that cooperation among the harvesting countries, under the European Union's Common Fisheries Policy, has been superficial. Combining a two-stage game of four asymmetric players with a comprehensive bioeconomic model, we conclude that cooperation under the Relative Stability Principle is not a stable outcome. In contrast, the equilibrium of the game is non-cooperation. The paper also addresses the possibility of enhancing cooperation through more flexible fishing strategies. The results indicate that partial...

Comparative Analysis of Technical Efficiency in European Agriculture AgEcon
Bakucs, Lajos Zoltan; Ferto, Imre; Latruffe, Laure; Desjeux, Yann; Soboh, Rafat; Dolman, Mark.
Technical efficiency has long been analysed as a measure of farm performance, however most studies are restricted to a single country case. This paper presents a comparative analysis of field crop and dairy farm performance across eight EU countries, including two New Member States (NMS), focusing on long run stability and mobility patterns. The main research question is how relative performance of farms fluctuates over time, i.e. whether poorly performing farms remain always inefficient whilst some farms are always very efficient. Results show that on average 60% of farms maintain their efficiency ranking in two consecutive years, whilst 20% improve and 20% worsen their positions, for all countries. Due to the unstable economic conditions, farms in NMS...

Vortex multipoles in two-layer rotating shallow-water flows ArchiMer
Baey, Jean-michel; Carton, Xavier.
The stability of elliptically perturbed circular vortices is investigated in a two-layer shallow-water model, with constant background rotation. The fluid is bounded above and below by rigid and flat surfaces. The linear stability analysis shows that elliptical perturbations are most unstable for moderate Burger numbers and vorticity shears. Shorter waves dominate for more sheared vortices. Shallow-water and quasigeostrophic growth rates exhibit a striking similarity, except at each end of the Burger number domain. There, cyclones (anticyclones) with finite Rossby numbers are more (less) unstable than their quasi-geostrophic counterparts. A simple model gives a first-order trend for this bias. Nonlinear model runs with initially perturbed vortices also...

การทดสอบเสถียรภาพของสารหอม 2-Acetyl-1-pyrroline ในเมล็ดถั่วเหลืองฝักสด Thai Agricultural

In this study, quantification and stability analysis of 2-Acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP) in different growth stages of two fragrant soybean cultivars, Chamame and Kaori, and one non-fragrant soybean cultivar, Chiang Mai 60 (CM60), grown for seven environments at Maejo University were reported. The results revealed that 2AP concentration was the highest in full seeds at R6 stages, followed by in leaves at V5 and in full pods at R6 being 6.21, 3.08 and 2.58, respectively. The seven environments were divided in into 4 groups. Group I comprised rainy seasons in 2009 and 2010, group II composed of dry seasons in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and group III and IV contained only rainy season in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The means of 2AP in Chamame and Kaori were not...
